In my 11 years as an executive advisor, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what it is that sets successful leaders apart. Using my neuroscience lens, I’ve considered this question from a range of perspectives over time. Lately, I’ve become fascinated by the interface between what might be considered the ‘intrinsic’ personality traits of leaders (tenacity, confidence, motivation) and a leader’s ability to project and communicate them – measured by looking at how they are experienced by their team. The easiest way to think about this inter-personal communication is to go back to basics, breaking it down into five experiential components.
